At the plenary session of the Senate, deputies adopted the Law “On Making Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Protected Areas” on second reading.
Speaker of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev recalled that the Head of State in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan defined environmental protection and ecological development as the top-priority tasks.
“In the Address, special attention is drawn to the legislative protection of National Parks and natural resources. The currently adopted Law will enable a positive resolution of a number of important issues in the environmental protection area. These include issues concerning the land of the Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park. The relevant instruction had been previously given by the Head of State. Today, theproblem which worried many people has been enshrined in legislation,” Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev said.
Also today, deputies of the Senate have considered, at the plenary session, the second reading of the bill “On Making Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Combating Corruption.” Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev mentioned that this document was thoroughly studied and discussed on first reading at the meeting of the House in the last session.
“As is commonly known, intensification of the fight against corruption is one of the basic priorities of the state administration system. Specific instructions have also been announced in the President’s Address. For this reason, additional amendments are made to the bill on the issues of systemic corruption prevention,” Maulen Ashimbayev noted.
In particular, the Law envisages the exclusion of the possibility of handing over gifts of any nature and value to family members of civil servants.
Senate deputy Andrei Lukin, in his turn, noted that the working group has conducted the relevant analysis and held meetings with the concerned government agencies, which resulted in new amendments. The anti-corruption bill was returned to the Majilis after the second reading.
Apart from that, during the plenary session of the Senate, deputies raised requests to Prime Minister Askar Mamin. The appeal of Senator Dauren Adilbekov refers to measures that support small and medium businesses. The request by Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed touches upon education issues. Yerik Sultanov expressed interest in the situation with water supply. Nurtore Zhussip made an inquiry on the need to adopt a National Program for Libraries and Cultural Centers. Akhylbek Kurishbayev is concerned about prices for products. Lyazzat Suleymen appealed to the Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning with regard to demographic issues.
