Olga Bulavkina took part in the seminar on food security

Olga Bulavkina took part in the seminar on the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to food security and agriculture in Kazakhstan.

In her speech, the Senator noted that the pandemic had highlighted the importance of the development of agriculture, which has a direct impact on food sovereignty, poverty reduction, and economic affordability of food products for the population. Olga Bulavkina stressed that the Senate had been actively working on legislative backing of the initiatives of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the further development of agriculture.

“The Head of State outlined the problem issues in the AIC, in particular, the efficiency of utilization of pastures and provision of backyards of villagers with pasture grounds, expansion of fodder crops cultivation areas and tightening of control over the observance of crop rotation. To improve the legislation on the management and utilization of pastures, deputies of the Senate of the Parliament work on the bill “On Making Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts on the Utilization of Pastures”,” Olga Bulavkina said.

In conclusion, she expressed her hope that the panelists would be able to develop practical guidelines necessary for further development and applied approach to addressing issues related to food security and further development of agriculture.

The seminar was also attended by representatives of government agencies, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the Green Economy Coalition, and others.
