On July 2-6 this year in Birmingham (Great Britain) the delegation of Kazakhstan Parliament consisting of senators Askar Shakirov, Gumar Dusembayev, Duysengazy Musin, deputies of Mazhilis Aigul Kuspan and Aidos Sarym took part in the Summer Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE, which discussed the actual issues of inter-parliamentary interaction in the context of the current international situation and modern challenges.

The Kazakhstani parliamentarians within the framework of three general committees: on political issues and security; on economy, science, technologies and environment; on democracy, human rights and humanitarian questions introduced the participants of the session with the measures undertaken by Kazakhstan to implement the modern international agenda, including in the area of comprehensive democratization of society, green economy and achievement of carbon neutrality by the country. Attention of the international community was drawn to the Aral Sea problem.

As previously reported, on the margins of the session the side-event "Creating a New Kazakhstan in a Changing World and Modern Challenges" was held. During the event, the Kazakhstani delegation acquainted the OSCE parliamentarians with the large-scale program of political and socio-economic reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in order to create the Second Republic.

During the session, a resolution "Implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the OSCE Area" was adopted, prepared by Askar Shakirov, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly and Special Representative on the SDGs. This programme of action, which was included in the outcome document of the Birmingham Declaration session, calls on parliaments of OSCE participating States to step up their efforts to integrate the SDGs into their activities, increase effectiveness and constructiveness in their national development plans and monitor their implementation.

Bilateral talks were held with the parliamentary delegations of the United Kingdom, USA, Turkey, Poland, Austria and Azerbaijan, during which agreements were reached on expanding inter-parliamentary interaction and its practical content.

These meetings testify to the considerable interest of foreign partners in the events taking place in Kazakhstan and support for the comprehensive reforms being carried out by the Head of the Kazakhstani state.

In the context of further development of the dialogue between Kazakhstan and the OSCE, Secretary General of this organization Helga Maria Schmid announced her intention to visit Kazakhstan.

The participants of the session expressed their common opinion on the increasing role of parliaments in world politics, and the need to develop and strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The session concluded with the election of the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, after which Margaret Cederfelt was re-elected for a one-year term.
