Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev and a group of deputies met with representatives of the mission of observers from the OSCE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the extraordinary elections of deputies to the Mazhilis of the Parliament and Maslikhats of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Maulen Ashimbaev expressed his gratitude to the international observers for responding to the invitation and coming to Kazakhstan to monitor the electoral process. The Chairman of the Senate stressed that all measures are being taken in Kazakhstan to ensure that the elections are held in accordance with national legislation and international standards.
The speaker also familiarized the participants of the meeting with internal political transformations and said that this made it possible to make the electoral process even more effective. In particular, a new mixed system of elections of deputies to the Mazhilis was introduced - according to party lists and single-mandate constituencies. In addition, a 30% quota has been introduced in party lists for women and youth, the status of the parliamentary opposition has been legalized, the procedure for registering political parties has been simplified, and others.
“Kazakhstan is interested in holding fair, open and competitive elections. For the further development of Kazakhstan, as a stable and democratic country, this is of decisive importance. People are waiting for real change, and it is necessary to live up to these expectations. I want to note the high level of activity and competition in the elections. This is a positive trend, demonstrating the growth of political activity in the country,” Maulen Ashimbaev emphasized.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Senate also thanked the observers from the OSCE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for organizing a mission to observe the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan. The high role of observers in election monitoring was noted.
For their part, parliamentarians noted the high level of preparation for the upcoming elections in the country. And they expressed hope for further strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
It should be noted that 793 observers from 12 international organizations and 41 countries will monitor the upcoming elections.
