The Speaker of the Senate held talks with the heads of parliamentary delegations of CIS countries

On the margins of the IPA CIS anniversary session, the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with the heads of parliamentary delegations and representatives of international organizations.

At the meeting with the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, they talked about strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. According to Maulen Ashimbayev, relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is a good example of successful cooperation of two brotherly nations. A key role in this process is played by personal trust and friendly relations between the Presidents of the two countries. The Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan invited Tanzila Narbayeva to Kyzylorda in April this year to hold a meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Senates of the two countries to discuss the role of the Parliaments in addressing environmental issues in the Aral Sea region.

Water issues and cultural and humanitarian cooperation were discussed at the meeting with Mr. Talant Mamytov, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic. According to Maulen Ashimbayev, it is important to more actively use the potential of parliamentarians to preserve the historical ties between the two nations.

During his meeting with Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, they talked about building the capacity of parliamentary diplomacy in the relationship between the two countries. The upcoming session of the Commission on Cooperation between the two Houses to be held in April this year was also discussed.

During talks with Rustami Emomali, Chairman of the Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Speaker of the Senate recalled that during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Tajikistan the aim to increase the volume of mutual trade in the next 5 years to 2 billion dollars was set and the need for joint enterprises for processing raw materials to final products was noted. Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized that Kazakh senators intend to promote the achievement of these agreements.

Also, current issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats were discussed with the Chairman of the Milli Mejlis of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan, Chairman of the Council of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova and Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova.

In addition, Maulen Ashimbaev met with Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

"We hope for WHO support in implementing the initiatives of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on establishing the International Agency for Biosafety and the Network of Regional Centers for Disease Control and Biosafety under the aegis of the UN. For its part, the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan is ready to provide all necessary assistance in achieving the main goals of the WHO," noted the Speaker of the Senate.
