The members of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security reviewed the Law "On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Nakhchivan Agreement on the Establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States" at an extended meeting.
The amendments introduced by the Protocol assign the functions of approving the documents of the Secretariat to the Council of Foreign Ministers, and the functions of their final adoption to the Council of Heads of State. According to the amendments, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking States and the International Organization of Turkic Culture are recognized as related organizations, and the Turkic Academy and the Foundation for Turkic Culture and Heritage as affiliated organizations.
The international forums previously designated in the Nakhchivan Agreement are excluded from the list of supervisory partners. Changes are also envisaged regarding the annual "informal" meetings of the Heads of State, the adoption and approval of documents prepared by the organization's bodies, as well as the procedure for the chairmanship.
According to the senators, the adoption of the law will serve as a solid basis for further deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with the Turkic states in all areas of the economy and coordinating efforts to ensure peace and security in the region. Following the meeting, the Committee members decided to send the Law to the Chamber for consideration.
