Chairman of the Senate Committee on Socio-Cultural Development and Science Nurtore Zhusip took part in a meeting of the Republican Onomastic Commission under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the event, Nurtore Zhusip gave a speech in which he noted that the issue of onomastics is not just a formal change of names. This is a deeply ideological, cultural and historical work that reflects the spirit of the times, the identity of the nation and respect for its past.
"Today, when Kazakhstan is strengthening its statehood and national identity, onomastic issues are becoming especially relevant. The names of streets, cities, villages, educational institutions and other objects are a reflection of our values, historical memory and respect for our roots. And improving the activities of the Republican Onomastic Commission is an important step towards the formation of a harmonious public consciousness, strengthening the civil identity and unity of our people," said Nurtore Zhusip.
At the same time, during the discussion with experts in the field of onomastics, the senator separately noted that "modern onomastics" is a complex interdisciplinary science that requires the participation of not only philologists and historians, but also ethnologists, geographers, and lawyers. Therefore, it is necessary to create a permanent expert platform that includes leading domestic and foreign specialists. This will ensure comprehensive scientific validity of the decisions taken.
"Each name is a symbol reflecting the destinies of people, pages of history, achievements and values of Kazakhstan. We are responsible to future generations for the picture of the cultural and historical space that we are creating today. Therefore, any changes in the field of onomastics should be carried out thoughtfully, carefully, with deep respect for the history, culture and languages of our multinational society. Only through the joint work of the state, the scientific community and the general public will we be able to build a sustainable, modern and harmonious system of onomastic policy worthy of independent Kazakhstan," Nurtore Zhusip emphasized.
Following the event, the parties discussed a number of key issues aimed at further improving the commission’s activities.
