04.07.2025 3027

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Yasumasa Iijima.

Opening the meeting, the Speaker of the Senate congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and emphasized that Japan is an important partner of Kazakhstan in the Asia-Pacific region. Close political contacts have been established at all levels, economic cooperation is actively developing, and cultural and humanitarian ties are strengthening.

In this regard, Maulen Ashimbayev noted the contribution of the Japanese Parliamentary Friendship League with Kazakhstan to the intensification of the Kazakh-Japanese partnership and outlined the need to intensify inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

"We highly value the traditionally friendly relations with Japan. As the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev notes: "Kazakhstan and Japan are distant neighbors, but close friends." Over the years, cooperation between our countries has reached the level of an expanded strategic partnership. It is also important to note that the positions of our countries on many issues on the global and regional agenda coincide. We pay great attention to strengthening inter-parliamentary ties. We are interested in the experience of your legislative work, including in the field of legal support for socio-economic and innovative development. We are ready to work together with our Japanese colleagues," said Maulen Ashimbayev and noted the successful work of the Central Asia + Japan dialogue.

The interlocutors discussed issues of trade, economic and investment cooperation, ecology, as well as the implementation of joint initiatives in these and other areas. In particular, special attention was paid to projects to further promote the decarbonization of the national economy and the transition to a green economy.

During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the promotion of spiritual diplomacy in the context of modern challenges. The Ambassador of Japan was informed about the preparations for the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held in September this year, and other events in this area.

In turn, Yasumasa Iijima expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Japan and jointly implementing relevant initiatives.
