Deputies of the Senate Committee on Socio-Cultural Development and Science Nurtore Zhusip and Ainur Argynbekova held a meeting with participants of the international conference «Achieving the SDGs with the interests of women with disabilities in Central Asia in mind». The forum will be held on September 10 in Astana and will bring together delegates from Finland, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and other countries to discuss key issues of social policy and the protection of the rights of women and girls with disabilities.

In his welcoming speech, Nurtore Zhusip elaborated on the development of the social sphere in Kazakhstan, noting the achievements in protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities and the integration of the sustainable development goals.

«In the context of the global agenda of the 21st century, the issues of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all categories of the population acquire particular importance. The adoption by the international community of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has become a benchmark for states in shaping social and economic policy. Kazakhstan, sharing these values, integrates the sustainable development goals into national strategic priorities. In addition, Kazakhstan's ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2015 marked a new stage in state policy. Today, the country has a National Plan for Ensuring the Rights and Improving the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities until 2025, a Concept of Family and Gender Policy until 2030, as well as a number of sectoral programs aimed at creating a barrier-free environment and expanding opportunities for women and girls with disabilities», – said Nurtore Zhusip.

The senator noted that Kazakhstan has built systematic work in this sphere: the necessary regulatory framework has been created, state programs are in effect, and cooperation with NGOs and international organizations is developing. In recent years, progress has been achieved in education, healthcare, employment, and social protection.

«It is important to emphasize that the realization of the rights of women and girls with disabilities is not only a matter of social justice, but also a crucial condition for achieving sustainable development. Kazakhstan will continue to develop and improve inclusive policy, strengthen social protection mechanisms, and form a tolerant society in which every citizen, regardless of health status and gender, can realize their potential», – noted Nurtore Zhusip.

Summing up, the senator expressed his gratitude to the international experts for their participation, emphasizing the importance of exchanging experience and expanding cooperation.

«The participation of foreign specialists and representatives of organizations opens new horizons for joint work and contributes to the formation of a unified platform aimed at protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities», – said Nurtore Zhusip.
