Deputy Chairwoman of the Senate Olga Perepechina took part in the international conference «Achieving the SDGs with the interests of women with disabilities in Central Asia in mind». Participants presented the work experience of organizations, exchanged regional practices, and prepared recommendations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account the interests of vulnerable groups of the population.
In her speech, Olga Perepechina emphasized that the achievement of the SDGs is impossible without considering the interests of vulnerable groups of the population and systemic solutions at the regional level.
«The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal, future-oriented agenda. However, their implementation is impossible without considering the interests of vulnerable groups of the population. Women and girls with disabilities are millions of citizens around the world who must have equal access to education, medicine, employment, and public life. Therefore, it is our common duty not to allow anyone to be left without attention and opportunities», - noted Olga Perepechina.
The senator noted that it is important for the countries of the region to focus on providing accessible and quality education, creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, expanding medical and social services, especially in rural areas, involving women with disabilities in decision-making processes, and developing a culture of respect and equal treatment in society.
The conference became an important contribution to the implementation of the international obligations of the Central Asian countries on the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The support for the event from the OSCE also testifies to the significance of the topic of human rights, gender equality, and inclusion for the international agenda.
Following the conference, the participants expressed their readiness for further cooperation and the development of practical solutions aimed at creating a truly inclusive society where every person has equal rights, opportunities, and prospects.
