Senators are concerned about the safety of citizens at industrial enterprises

A meeting of the Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security was held in the Senate under the chairmanship of the Vice-Speaker of the Chamber, Askar Shakirov, where issues of the regional civil protection system of Karaganda region were discussed.

The Minister of Emergency Situations Yuri Ilyin and Akim of Karaganda region Zhenis Kasymbek participated in the meeting online.

The deputies were told that at 36 862 hazardous production facilities, the state of industrial safety and technical devices are being monitored, which are operated at 394 factories in Karaganda region. Over 8 months of 2020, the Department of Emergency Situations conducted 132 inspections during which industrial safety violations were identified.

This year, 8 919 emergencies and cases occurred in the country, in which more than 15 thousand people were harmed. According to experts, 7 797 emergencies were of a technogenic nature including industrial accidents, fires and explosions.

Askar Shakirov stressed that counteracting man-made and natural disasters is a strategically important part of the State policy aimed at the sustainable development of the country and the safety of its citizens.

“It is required to revise the approach to the planning of measures to prevent and eliminate the consequences of emergencies. This approach should be based on an accurate analysis of existing problems, a forecast of the development of the situation and a comprehensive solution to the challenges ahead”, said the Vice-Speaker of the Senate.

Closing the meeting, Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security, Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, remined that the Head of the State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his Address, emphasized the need for all citizens to strive for self-development, since the current challenges force us to constantly develop, improve and become stronger.
