Senate Deputy Chairman Askar Shakirov met with the Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada delegation who arrived to observe the elections to the Mazhilis of the Parliament and maslikhats of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Senate Vice-Speaker informed about the preparations for the upcoming elections, noting the importance of the participation of international observers in the electoral process.
“Kazakhstan pays great attention to organization of the electoral process in strict compliance with generally recognized standards,” Askar Shakirov said.
It was noted that our country is taking all necessary measures to ensure proper voting, taking into account the relevant recommendations of authoritative international organizations. Kazakhstan took specific actions to improve the country's political system last year. So, implementation of the president’s package of political reforms was formalized in legislation, including introduction of a 30% quota for women and youth on party lists, a simplified procedure for registration of political parties, and the institution of parliamentary opposition.
The Ukrainian MPs noted the high organizational level of preparation for the elections and spoke favorably of the support provided to international organizations in the observation process.
The meeting was attended by a member of the Verkhovna Rada cooperation team of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Altynbek Nukhuly.
