Chairman of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev received Chairman of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir.
The parties talked over the issues of Kazakhstan’s interaction with the UN and its structural subdivisions.
“The interaction with the UN is a priority area of the foreign policy of Kazakhstan. At present, 27 missions of the United Nations’ subdivisions are operating in Kazakhstan”, Maulen Ashimbayev said.
The Speaker of the Senate also briefed Mr. Volkan Bozkir on the significant political and democratic reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In the course of the conversation, they also discussed the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. According to the Chairman of the House, early in this year, the nationalization of the SDG indicators was completed. About 80% of the tasks have already been integrated into the strategic planning documents of our country. In this connection, the Speaker of the Senate drew attention to the significance of the work of parliamentarians for achieving these goals.
“National parliaments play an essential role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through the adoption of appropriate laws. Senators are ready to actively cooperate and contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”, Maulen Ashimbayev said.
In closing the meeting, the Chairman of the Senate commended the guest for the planned convening of the annual plenary session of the UN General Assembly dedicated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests. Kazakhstan considers this day particularly important given that August 29 is the day the Semipalatinsk Test Site was officially closed, which is of historical significance not only to Kazakhstan but also to all of humanity, Maulen Ashimbayev stressed.
