Meeting with the delegation of the European Union was held in the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Askar Shakirov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, met with Teri Khakala, a Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia.

The EU representative was informed about the main activities of the Senate, as well as about the laws adopted by the deputies aimed at implementing the modernization agenda of the Head of State.

The Vice-Speaker emphasized that Kazakhstan pays priority attention to the issues of strengthening democracy, the rule of law and human rights, thereby demonstrating its readiness for a constructive dialogue at all levels of interaction. It was noted that our country is a full participant in almost all international documents in the field of human rights, including the 7 main UN human rights conventions.

An important topic of discussion was the activation of inter-parliamentary relations.

"We attach great importance to the development of cooperation in the inter-parliamentary direction. Currently, the Friendship Group of Kazakhstan and the European Union is functioning in the European Parliament, which has a significant potential to promote the development of trade, economic, investment and humanitarian ties. I am sure that the activation of this work will make an important contribution to the further development of bilateral cooperation and strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties, " Askar Shakirov said.

They also discussed topical issues of the Central Asian region, including the situation in Afghanistan.
