In preparation for the Parliamentary hearings on “Topical issues and prospects for the agriculture development” and implementation of the Address of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the People of Kazakhstan “Unity of the people and system reforms are a solid foundation for the nation’s prosperity”, deputies of the Senate Committee on Agrarian Issues, Nature Management and Rural Development visited the National Center for Biotechnology.
The Senate deputies familiarized themselves with the research activities of the Center in the area of using agro-biotechnology to improve the efficiency of agricultural production.
“Agrarian science contributes greatly to the increase of competitiveness of the agro-industrial complex. There is a need to closely integrate science and agricultural production, and provide qualified personnel for the industry,” Committee Chairman Ali Bektayev said.
The senators were briefed on the fundamental and applied research carried out by the Center in biology, biotechnology, biological safety, and ecology, including collective-use biotechnology, selective breeding of plants, genetic engineering of plants, plant genomics, and bioinformatics, and others.
