An international conference on the "Institutional openness of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the society" was held in Astana. Together with representatives from the Parliamentary Development Fund in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Information and Public Development, USAID, Internews and the OSCE Programme Office in Astana discussed current issues of interaction between parliamentarians and civil society leaders.
In his speech Deputy Chairman of the Senate Askar Shakirov emphasized, that development of the dialogue between the authorities and the society, expansion of the citizens' participation in the government are one of the priorities of the policy of the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"As the Head of the State has repeatedly emphasized, the main problems of concern to our society must be discussed and solved exactly in the Parliament, within the framework of civilized dialogue. At the present stage, improvement of inclusiveness, wider representation of different political powers and social groups in the legislative body, openness to the society and transparency are important principles in the work of the deputy corps", - Askar Shakirov said.
Vice-Speaker noted that in accordance with the principles of the concept of "The Listening State" in the Parliament special platforms for dialogue with civil society and experts have been formed.
Thus, the Senate created the Young Experts Club, aimed at developing the capacity of young experts in legislative activities. There is also the Council of Senators, the "Ulttyq Mudde" dialogue platform and the Council for Interaction with Maslikhats.
Besides, representatives of the non-governmental sector, scientific and expert community take part in discussions of draft laws, including those within working groups, which is especially important during the development and adoption of fateful laws.
The participants of the meeting discussed further ways of interaction within the framework of lawmaking activities of the Parliament and expressed readiness to continue joint work in this direction.
