17.03.2023 76

Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Olga Perepechina met with representatives of the observer mission from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

During the conversation, Olga Perepechina noted that our country began this year with important political events, namely the election of deputies to the Senate and extraordinary elections to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which are held in the context of large-scale internal political transformations in Kazakhstan.

In general, taking into account the ongoing large-scale constitutional reforms, the Senate has become a chamber that really represents the interests of the regions of the country. Thus, the upcoming elections to the Mazhilis complete a comprehensive reset of the entire political system of the country. Elections of deputies to the Mazhilis and maslikhats are held according to a new mixed system - party lists and single-mandate constituencies. This makes it possible to elect representatives of various social groups and political parties, thereby ensuring the representative function of the Parliament,” the senator said.

In addition, Olga Perepechina also informed the participants of the meeting about the work carried out in the country to actively involve women, youth and persons with disabilities in political processes. According to the quota, 30% of the total number of candidates for deputies of the maslikhat and the Mazhilis should be representatives from these categories of citizens. This will allow taking into account their opinion when making decisions aimed at resolving certain issues and will contribute to building an inclusive society.

In turn, members of the IPA CIS and PA CSTO observer mission noted that Kazakhstan is taking all necessary measures to ensure the organization of elections in accordance with high democratic standards.
