Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan - President of the Boccia Federation Maulen Ashimbaev took part in an inclusive tournament held today in the capital. Well-known athletes, experts and media personalities took part in the start of the first boccia tournament.

Maulen Ashimbaev noted that comprehensive work to support citizens with special needs and create a barrier-free environment is one of the priority tasks.

“The head of state pays great attention to the issues of inclusive development. A fair Kazakhstan means equal opportunities for all citizens. The boccia sports tournament contributes to the formation of an inclusive society in Kazakhstan. I am sure that together we can do a lot in this direction,” Maulen Ashimbaev said, addressing the participants of the tournament.

In his speech, Maulen Ashimbaev noted that this sport began to be popularized in Kazakhstan relatively recently, but certain results have already been achieved. The Speaker of the Senate noted the importance of continuing work to ensure conditions for the development of an inclusive society. The Senate is ready to provide support in this, including at the legislative level.

“Today, there are more than 20 boccia sections throughout the country. About 150 special athletes are involved in them. This year we formed the National Team, which will represent our country in international competitions. The participation of our athletes in such tournaments is a great achievement and a step towards a full-fledged inclusive society, where everyone has opportunities for self-realization,” the Senate Speaker emphasized.

For reference: boccia is a sports game with balls, in which people with severe lesions of the musculoskeletal system take part. Since 1984, this sport has been included in the program of the Paralympic Games.
