Senators discussed issues of stock market development with the leadership of the AIFC

Deputies of the Senate Committee on Finance and Budget visited the Astana International Financial Center. During the visit, the senators got acquainted with the activities of the Exchange and the AIFC Financial Services Regulatory Committee.

In his welcoming speech, Chairman of the Senate Committee Sultanbek Makezhanov noted that in the Address to the people of Kazakhstan dated September 1 of this year, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set tasks for the further development of the stock market.

“As the President noted, there are currently two stock exchanges operating in Kazakhstan, which largely duplicate each other and sometimes even compete with each other. In order to increase the capacity and attractiveness of the domestic market, the Head of State set the task of working on the issue of combining the potential of these exchanges under a single management. In turn, we, as members of Parliament, are ready to assist at the legislative level if necessary,” the senator said.

During the event, the Manager of the Astana International Financial Center, Renat Bekturov, made his report. He told parliamentarians about the work of the Center. Thus, according to him, the AIFC occupies a strategic position, providing access to the dynamically growing CIS market with a total GDP of 2.3 trillion US dollars.

Also, during the meeting, participants discussed current issues of the securities market, the role of the AIFC in the development of the capital market, attracting investments, as well as other sources of financing.
