At a meeting of the Senate chaired by the Speaker of the Chamber, Maulen Ashimbayev, the deputies considered and adopted the Law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on science issues”, initiated by parliamentarians. Its main goal is to improve the scientific, scientific and technical sphere and commercialize its results. In particular, the proposed innovations will enable funding a wide range of scientific research from the republican budget. It is expected that this will help increase the number of applied scientific discoveries, as well as the contribution of science to the development of the country’s economy.
The Senate Committee on Finance and Budget held an extended meeting to discuss the draft law “On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty on the Joint Collegium of Customs Services of the Member States of the Customs Union dated June 22, 2011”.

An enlarged meeting of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Legislation, Judicial System and Law Enforcement Agencies took place today. During the meeting, the deputies considered the candidates submitted by the President of the country for the dismissal of judges of the Supreme Court, in connection with the appointment to another position and resignation.
An enlarged meeting of the Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security was held under the chairmanship of Senator Mukhtar Kul-Mohammed. The meeting participants discussed the readiness of the forces and facilities of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and individual regions for the spring-flood period.
The Senate Committee on Finance and Budget, chaired by Olga Perepechina, held a round table on the topic: “Prospects for the development of the insurance market. Regulation and directions of life insurance development”.
A session of the Bureau took place under the chairmanship of the House Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev. At this session, deputies discussed the agenda of the upcoming session of the Senate, to be held on March 4, 2021.
The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the Winter Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held on February 24-26 via videoconferencing. Senator Gumar Dyussembayev spoke at the meeting of the General Committee of the Assembly on Economic Issues, Science, Technology and Environment.
Former deputy of the Mazhilis Mansurkhan Makhambetov was appointed as the Director of the Institute of Parliamentarism. Mansurkhan Makhambetov is a professional lawyer with a long track record of service in public prosecution bodies, including in the regions.
The Government Hour focused on the further development of the industrial potential of Kazakhstan took place under the chair of Vice-Speaker of the Senate Nurlan Abdirov. The meeting discussed the legislative regulation of the industrial policy, challenges of the industry and ways to address them.
The Senate of the Parliament of the RoK held an extended session of the Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security chaired by Deputy Chairman of the House Askar Shakirov. The discussion of the progress in implementing the Law “On National Security” in terms of ensuring transport security was the key issue on the agenda.
The Senate Committee on Finance and Budget held a meeting with the concerned government agencies, where the improvement of approaches in determining general transfers was discussed. In addition, they heard information on the outcome of the Accounts Committee’s audit of their formation.
The procedure for taking countermeasures, as well as suspension of international treaties or their individual provisions, if other parties fail to comply with their obligations, has been legally defined in Kazakhstan. The innovation is set in the Law “On Making Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On International Treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, adopted today by deputies at the Senate session. The Senate Speaker expressed the hope that in the future this Law would contribute towards greater protection of the national interests of our state.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session started its work on February 24 via videoconference, in which a delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Askar Shakirov, is taking part.
