Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev met with the Chairman of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér. The parties discussed current issues of cooperation and outlined the prospects for inter-parliamentary interaction between the countries.

Welcoming the interlocutor, Maulen Ashimbayev highly praised the constructive and strategic relations with Hungary – an important and reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the European Union. He also emphasized that a regular political dialogue has been established between the two states, including at the highest level.

«A substantive political dialogue has been established between our countries, and economic interaction and cultural-humanitarian ties are strengthening. The high level of trust in our relations was reaffirmed during the successful state visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, to Budapest last year. Following the talks, a Joint Statement was adopted, reflecting the intention of the two countries to further strengthen their strategic partnership and implement joint initiatives, and a number of important agreements in the trade and economic sphere were signed. We highly value the established friendly ties between the Parliament of Kazakhstan and the National Assembly of Hungary and are interested in strengthening them», – said the Speaker of the Senate and emphasized the need to intensify ties between the legislative bodies of Kazakhstan and Hungary.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the prospects for strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, including interaction within the framework of friendship groups and the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe, the OSCE, as well as the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Special attention was also paid to cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States, in which Hungary participates as an observer. In this context, the role of parliamentarians in the further development of trade-economic and investment cooperation, the sphere of education, and other sectors of mutual interest was discussed.

In addition, the Speaker of the Senate noted the importance of developing spiritual diplomacy and expressed gratitude to Hungary for its active support and significant contribution to achieving the goals of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. As was noted, this year, the State Secretary for Church, Minority and Civil Society Relations of Hungary, Miklós Soltész, took part in the work of the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions for the first time.

For his part, László Kövér noted the importance of increasing inter-parliamentary interaction and expressed interest in the further strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary.
