29.09.2025 405

The Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament, Maulen Ashimbayev, met with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who arrived in Kazakhstan for the first time on an official visit. During the meeting, the parties discussed important aspects of cooperation between the two countries and exchanged proposals for strengthening inter-parliamentary interaction.

Welcoming the Italian delegation, the Senate Speaker noted that over the years of cooperation between the two states, a trusting political dialogue has been established, and trade, economic, and investment cooperation are successfully developing. Cultural and humanitarian ties are expanding. He also expressed confidence that this historic visit will provide a new serious impetus to the expansion of strategic relations between Kazakhstan and Italy.

«Recent years have been very productive for Kazakh-Italian cooperation. In this regard, the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, to Italy last January, as well as the visit of the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Meloni, to Astana this May, were very successful. I am convinced that these contacts, as well as your current visit, will solidify the high dynamic of inter-state interaction and cooperation», - noted Maulen Ashimbayev.

During the meeting, Maulen Ashimbayev and Sergio Mattarella exchanged views on the prospects for strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, including the exchange of legislative experience and interaction within the framework of the «Kazakhstan-Italy» friendship groups.

At the same time, the interlocutors placed significant importance on the growing dynamic in Italy's cooperation with the Central Asian region. In particular, the parties agreed that the results of the recent negotiations of the first «Central Asia – Italy» summit, held in Astana, open up new opportunities for the development of multifaceted cooperation in various fields.

Emphasizing the importance of developing spiritual diplomacy, the Senate Speaker expressed gratitude for the participation and valuable contribution of the spiritual leaders of Italy to achieving the goals of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The first apostolic visit of Pope Francis to Kazakhstan, as Maulen Ashimbayev stressed, was a momentous event not only for our country but also for the entire region.

The President of Italy, in turn, highly appreciated the socio-economic and political transformations in Kazakhstan and expressed interest in the further strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Italy.
