In the Senate of the Parliament, a meeting of the chamber's deputies chaired by Zhakip Asanov took place with deputies of the Council of States of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, co-chairman of the Inter-parliamentary friendship group «Kazakhstan - Switzerland» Josef Dittli.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues concerning the strengthening of bilateral relations, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and prospects for further collaboration. Special attention was paid to Kazakhstan's upcoming chairmanship of the OSCE in 2026, in the context of which the parties expressed their readiness for closer interaction.
«For more than three decades, Kazakhstan and Switzerland have been building strong and trusting relations based on mutual respect and similar approaches to the global agenda. Parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in the development of cooperation, and the work of inter-parliamentary friendship groups and interaction within international organizations such as PACE, the OSCE, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union are also of great importance», - emphasized Zhakip Asanov.
A separate block of negotiations was dedicated to the development of economic and investment cooperation. It was noted that Switzerland is one of the three largest investors in Kazakhstan, and the trade turnover between the countries shows steady growth.
«Switzerland is one of Kazakhstan's key economic partners in Europe. The country is among the top 20 largest trade partners and ranks in the top three foreign investors, with a total investment volume exceeding 35 billion US dollars. Particular importance is attached to the projects of the Swiss company Stadler, which has become one of the largest investors in Kazakhstan this year. At the legislative level, all the necessary conditions have been created in our country to protect the interests of foreign companies and develop their investment activities», - said the senator.
Zhakip Asanov noted that the Senate intends to continue to contribute to the strengthening of inter-parliamentary dialogue and the creation of new opportunities for interaction between the two countries.
