Maulen Ashimbaev met with the Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev, who arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit. The interlocutors discussed the prospects for further strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and expanding partnerships between the countries.
In his speech, Maulen Ashimbaev noted that Kyrgyzstan is one of the key partners of Kazakhstan in Central Asia. Over the 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, as noted by the Chairman of the Chamber, a solid contractual and legal framework has been formed, covering more than 150 treaties and agreements in various fields.
“Our countries have built relations based on mutual respect and good neighborliness. Close cooperation and friendly interaction, established by the Heads of the two states, continue along the line of inter-parliamentary cooperation. A group of cooperation with the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic has been formed in the Senate. The Senate of the Parliament will continue systematic work to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation with fraternal Kyrgyzstan,” Maulen Ashimbaev emphasized and briefed the interlocutor on the implementation of the reforms being carried out in the country at the initiative of the Head of State.
Nurlanbek Shakiyev, for his part, highly appreciated the importance of the political and economic transformations taking place in Kazakhstan and noted the importance of the progressive development of relations between the two states.
“There are no economic and political disagreements between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. On the contrary, we are fraternal peoples who have lived side by side for a long time and who always support each other. Sadyr Japarov and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev actively contribute to further strengthening of relations between the two states, including at the inter-parliamentary level,” the Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh said.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the assistance of parliamentarians to strengthening cooperation in the management of water resources, the importance of which, during the international forum in Astana, was also expressed by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.
At the same time, the Chairman of the Senate expressed interest in the exchange of experience in legislative work, taking into account the Water Code adopted by Kyrgyzstan, and suggested creating a bilateral working group to discuss topical issues in this direction.
“The water problem is especially relevant for our region. In this regard, it is important to jointly contribute to solving the problems of water supply. Given our good neighborly and allied relations, it is important to maintain an open and constructive dialogue on these issues,” Maulen Ashimbaev said.
The interlocutors also considered issues of strengthening interregional cooperation, building up trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries.
It should be noted that within the framework of the visit of the parliamentary delegation of Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan, a number of meetings with the country's leadership, members of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and other events are also planned.
