03.07.2023 237

The 30th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is being held in the capital of Canada, Vancouver, titled “Strengthening regional security through the development of democratic and inclusive societies: the role of the OSCE PA”.

The meetings of the Standing Committee, General Committees of the Assembly, as well as its plenary session discuss current issues of security and cooperation in the OSCE region, including cybersecurity, prevention of terrorism and violent extremism.

The focus of parliamentarians is the search for optimal ways to improve the functionality of the Organization in a crisis in international relations.

Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Askar Shakirov, who took part in the session, familiarized the parliamentarians with the position of Kazakhstan on topical international problems, determined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

A meeting was held with the parliamentary delegation of Canada, where issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

As a special representative of the OSCE PA on the Sustainable Development Goals, the Kazakh senator co-sponsored the resolution "Future Generations", calling for the promotion of the real participation of youth in governance and important decision-making within the framework of the SDGs.

As a result of the session, the final document, the Vancouver Declaration, was adopted, and elections were held for the governing bodies of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
