Maulen Ashimbayev met with the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Kazakhstan

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev met with the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in the Republic of Kazakhstan, George George Panamtundil. The interlocutors discussed issues of strengthening cooperation between the two countries and further expanding partnership in promoting interreligious dialogue.

The Speaker of the Senate congratulated George Panamtundil on the start of the mission in our country and noted that Kazakhstan and the Holy See maintain long-standing partnerships based on harmony and mutual respect. An active and trusting dialogue at the highest level contributes to the strengthening of friendly relations between the two states.

"The recent official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev to the Vatican and the meeting with Pope Francis gave a new impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation. We welcome the close and fruitful cooperation with the Dicastery of the Holy See on the development of interfaith and intercivilizational dialogue. Last year, a special law was adopted to ratify the Supplementary Agreement between Kazakhstan and the Vatican. The document contributes to the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Holy See, as well as the further development of intercultural and interreligious dialogue," Maulen Ashimbayev said.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Senate expressed gratitude to the Vatican side for its comprehensive and consistent support for the work of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which, thanks to joint efforts, has become a platform for strengthening mutual understanding and mutual respect between religions.

He also stressed the importance of developing spiritual diplomacy and spoke about Kazakhstan's initiatives in the field of interfaith harmony and the promotion of global interreligious dialogue.

"Last October, we held the XXI meeting of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which resulted in the adoption of the Concept of Development of the Congress. The document sets out an updated vision of the development of the Kazakh site for the next ten years. We see great potential in spiritual diplomacy. Under these conditions, the activities of the Congress will be aimed at strengthening cooperation between religious leaders, politicians and international organizations in order to help solve global problems of the modern world, such as terrorism, extremism, inequality, poverty, climate change," Maulen Ashimbayev stressed and outlined promising areas of joint work.

During the meeting, George Panamtundil noted that the Holy See shares Kazakhstan's aspirations in promoting the ideas of peace, constant dialogue between cultures and religions for the benefit of people of all faiths. He also expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan.
