Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev took part in the World Cleanup Day campaign. This year, the action is held simultaneously all over the country. Eco-activists plant trees, clean public spaces, parks, squares and other areas.
In Nur-Sultan, within the framework of the campaign, participants planted trees in the metropolitan triathlon park and also organized garbage collection along the highways.
Maulen Ashimbayev noted that the President in his Address put great emphasis on environmental protection and the importance of environmental education, and the today’s campaign is the first step in the implementation of the instruction given by the Head of State on planting trees and landscaping settlements in Kazakhstan.
“The Head of State called the addressing of environmental problems one of the key priorities of the nation-wide agenda. Specific tasks have been assigned to government authorities, the Parliament and public institutions. In line with the President’s instructions, we will adopt the Environmental Code by the end of the year. This document, along with other laws in the area of ecology, will be discussed with representatives of civil society,” Maulen Ashimbayev said.
According to the Chairman of the House, just this week the Senate adopted the Law on Protected Areas. It will enable returning unused lands to the Ile-Alatau Natural Park and the Burabay National Park.
The Senate Speaker also recalled that over the next 5 years, as instructed by the Head of State, more than 2 billion trees are to be planted in the national forest areas, and another 15 million plantings - in settlements. That is why today’s event can be considered a significant step in implementing the instructions of the President. Maulen Ashimbayev told about the importance of landscaping and such campaigns as the World Cleanup Day.
“Nowadays, green issues are a matter of concern for the whole world. Many forests, fields, lakes and rivers suffer from human negligence. There are quite a few environmental issues in our country. Therefore, all of us should unite and be actively involved in such campaigns,” the Senate Speaker said.
The World Cleanup Day is the annual global social action program aimed at tackling the problem of solid domestic waste. Volunteers, leaders of environmental movements, major global companies and organizations from over 170 countries were involved in the program last year.
