D. Nazarbayeva: Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have serious prospects for cooperation

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva met with Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, who arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit.

At the meeting, the parties noted that they attach special importance to the expansion of cooperation between the countries.

Dariga Nazarbayeva, in her speech, stressed that Uzbekistan is an important strategic partner of Kazakhstan in Central Asia. “Today, Kazakh-Uzbek relations demonstrate high dynamics of development in all areas. The main merit in this belongs to the First President of Kazakhstan – Yelbasy N. A. Nazarbayev and the President of Uzbekistan Sh. M. Mirziyoyev,” Chairman of the Senate said.

The head of the Senate stressed the fact that his second foreign visit as Head of State, K. K. Tokayev made to Uzbekistan, and this once again confirms the commitment to further strengthen relations in the spirit of mutual understanding and good neighborliness.

The Speaker of the Senate called Uzbekistan the main trading partner in the region. In 2018, the trade turnover between the countries increased by more than 25% and reached $ 2.5 billion. “It is necessary to continue work in this direction to achieve the common goal, to reach the volume of $ 5 billion of mutual trade,” the head of the upper house said.

According to Dariga Nazarbayeva, there are serious prospects for further deepening of cooperation between the two countries on investment, energy, tourism, regional and cross-border cooperation, transit and transport cooperation.

In turn, the head of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis noted that Kazakhstan is a faithful and reliable partner of Uzbekistan. “Our peoples share common historical and cultural roots. There are similarities in many areas of development. Uzbekistan attaches great importance to friendly relations with Kazakhstan,” said Tanzila Narbayeva.

The parties noted that the interparliamentary dialogue between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has now intensified, which now needs to be given a systemic character. Including through the creation of a joint Commission for inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The discussion touched upon the implementation of experience exchange programs in the field of legal support of reforms and socio-economic development, as well as the acceleration of the adoption and ratification of bilateral treaties and agreements.

At the end of the meeting, a joint Roadmap for the development of cooperation between the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019-2020 was signed.
