Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Spain to Kazakhstan Jorge Urbiola.
In his welcoming remarks, the Senator noted the high level of strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Spain, stressing that there is full mutual understanding between Astana and Madrid on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and international politics.
"Good results have been achieved through inter-parliamentary cooperation. In both chambers of the Kazakh Parliament there are groups on cooperation with Spain. I am the group leader for cooperation with your country in the Senate. Our deputies are set to develop relations with Spanish colleagues also on the lines of international organizations, in particular, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly,"- said the deputy.
Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed also told the guest about the reforms implemented in the country on the initiative of the Head of State, informing about the upcoming early presidential elections. The Senator stressed that the work carried out in the country will unite all citizens of our country around the idea of democratic transformation.
For his part, Jorge Urbiola stressed the importance of further strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, highlighting that Kazakhstan has shown itself as a reliable political and economic partner during the 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the meeting the sides also discussed joint work on implementation of the Agreement on the enlarged partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU. In particular, in such areas as transition to a "green" economy, trade and investment, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, as well as issues of climate change.
