At the meeting of the Senate Committee on Social and Cultural Development and Science, deputies discussed the bill on enhancing social protection of certain categories of citizens.

The document, passed in the first reading at the previous session of the Senate, envisages the introduction of amendments and additions to 16 legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Specifically, to ensure equal rights and opportunities for men and women in the sphere of labour, it is proposed to exclude the rules limiting the employment of women, and not allowing women to perform heavy work, work in harmful and hazardous working conditions, from the specialized Code.

Besides, amendments will also affect the Laws “On Housing Relations”, “On State Targeted Social Assistance”, and “On State Social Benefits for Disability and Loss of Breadwinner in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

“The amendment to the Law on Housing Relations provides for the preservation of the priority to receive housing for families raising a disabled child, who have not received housing until the child reaches the age of 18. Also, a guarantee of a benefits package for disadvantaged children is introduced, as well as the provision of special social services through the Portal,” Senator Nariman Turegaliyev said.

The adoption of the bill aims to solve pressing issues of providing citizens with basic social guarantees, including social support to persons with additional needs, targeted social assistance and pension coverage.

As a result of the meeting, deputies resolved to pass the bill to the House for consideration in the second reading.
