Speaker of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev met with Chairman of Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali, who arrived today in Kazakhstan with an official visit.
In his speech, Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized that strong ties between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are based on the centuries-long bonds of brotherhood and friendship between our peoples, and the two states are reliable strategic partners and allies.
The Senate Chairman stressed that the President of Kazakhstan paid two visits to Tajikistan this year. Such regularity of visits and the level of agreements made during these meetings testify to the high level of cooperation established by the two Heads of State.
“During the official visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Tajikistan in May this year, the further prospects for strengthening of our relations were identified. In the Joint Declaration, the Presidents of the two countries have stated their firm position to develop the relations of strategic partnership. It is important to maintain and promote the high level of cooperation established by the Presidents of the two countries through the Parliaments of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan,” Maulen Ashimbayev said.
According to Rustami Emomali, cooperation with Kazakhstan holds a priority place in Tajikistan’s foreign policy. The Chairman of Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli underscored that he puts great importance on strengthening the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
“Kazakhstan plays an important role in the political and economic life of Central Asia. Over the past years of independence, your country has made great strides in social and economic development and the consolidation of its image on the international stage. There are many long-term programs and strategies for the development of the country that have been elaborated and are being successfully implemented. Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate you and, in your person, the brotherly people of Kazakhstan on the approaching 30th Anniversary of Independence,” Rustami Emomali said.
In the course of the talks, the parties noted the importance of building a constructive dialogue on all aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Specifically, the joint work on investments, trade and economic relations, agriculture, transport and communication infrastructure, and digitalization is of great importance.
Maulen Ashimbayev placed a special emphasis on the need to intensify cooperation in the water and energy sector.
“We realize that the issue of water deficit in the Central Asian region will be more and more topical with each year. These are the realities we have to accept. In this connection, it would be very significant to conclude a trilateral agreement on the joint use of water resources of the Bakhri Tojik reservoir. This Agreement could become a practical mechanism to regulate the issues of shared water resources use in the Syrdarya river basin on a continuous basis,” Maulen Ashimbayev noted.
The meeting participants emphasized the problem of Afghanistan. While agreeing that achieving stability in Afghanistan is crucial for ensuring regional security, the parties voiced readiness for active collaboration and cooperation in this area.
The Senate Speaker also mentioned that Kazakhstan supports the establishment of Afghanistan as a peaceful and independent state free of terrorism and drugs.
A fresh impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation will also be given by the Agreement on Cooperation between the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, which has been signed today. The document provides for the establishment of a standing Commission on inter-parliamentary cooperation.
On the same day, Rustami Emomali laid flowers at the Otan Korgaushylar monument, and also visited the Astanagenplan Scientific Research Design Institute and the metropolitan Monitoring and Operational Response Center iKomek.
