23.02.2022 457

Members of the Senate Committee on Agrarian Issues, Nature Management and Rural Development had a meeting with representatives of Ministries and quasi-public entities on issues of provision of agricultural producers with irrigation water.

In the last few years, the shortage of water resources due to global climate change and its adverse effects have been felt in many economic branches, including agricultural activities and especially in irrigation farming.

“The issue of providing irrigation water is of great significance not only for agricultural producers, but it also affects the national food security as a whole. At that, the introduction of up-to-date water-saving technologies under conditions of water scarcity is still urgent,” Ali Bektayev said.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Ecology, given the current hydro-economic situation in the southern regions and an expected shortage of water, steps are taken to maximally fill water reservoirs for providing irrigation water to agricultural producers.

In turn, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture told about the prospects for increasing the efficiency of irrigated agriculture through the use of water-saving irrigation technologies allowing to reduce wastage of water and increase yield level through the point feeding with water and nutrient elements.
