Deputies of the Senate of the Kazakhstan Parliament met with Kimmo Kiljunen and Heli Järvinen, members of the Inter-parliamentary Group for Friendship with Central Asia.

In his welcoming speech, Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed noted that Finland is an important partner of Kazakhstan in Northern Europe and the European Union in general. And also our countries share similar views on key international issues and closely cooperate within the framework of international organizations.

In addition, the parliamentarian told his interlocutors about the comprehensive and systemic reforms initiated by the Head of State.

"To date, the main priority in the work of Parliament is the legislative support of the ongoing political and economic reforms. At the beginning of the month, deputies of the Senate considered and adopted a number of the most important constitutional laws aimed at strengthening the system of human rights protection, ensuring the balance of powers and responsibilities between the branches of power as well as between the center and the regions. The adopted norms created the legal framework for introduction of a mixed model of formation of the Mazhilis and Maslikhats, and gradual introduction of election of akims of districts and cities of regional importance", - noted Senator Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed.

Besides, the parties discussed the importance of expansion of inter-parliamentary ties. Finnish MPs emphasized that during 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries Kazakhstan has proved itself as a reliable political and economic partner.
